The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team is set to host Saint Joseph's Wednesday, Jan. 14. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m. at the Reilly Center.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies dropped a road matchup at Rhode Island last Saturday, falling 66-45 to the Rams at the Ryan Center.
Laycee Drake paced the Bonnies with 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Aaliyah Parker chipped in eight points for the Brown and White.
Bona's trailed the Rams by one at halftime, 22-21, but Rhode Island outscored the Bonnies 44-24 in the second half to pull away for the win.
MacDONOUGH MAKES FIRST START
St. Bonaventure freshman Elyse MacDonough made her first collegiate start Saturday at Rhode Island. She tallied three points and pulled down two rebounds in 30 minutes.
MacDonough has appeared in all 16 games during her first season with the Bonnies, averaging 4.1 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 19.7 minutes per game. She ranks second on the team with 19 made threes.
BOUNCE BACK BONNIES
The Bonnies are 4-1 this season following a loss with the only consecutive defeats coming to UAlbany (Nov. 22) and Cleveland State (Nov. 26).
Following a loss, the Bonnies are allowing just 53.6 points per game.
Bona's is 9-0 this season when allowing 60 or less points and sit fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense, giving up 59.2 points per game. Rhode Island touts the best scoring defense in the A-10, allowing just 55.1 points per contest.
DEFENDING THE THREE
The Brown and White currently sit second in the Atlantic 10 and 46th in the NCAA, holding opponents to a 27.0 shooting percentage from beyond the arc this season.
The Bonnies have held opponents to five or fewer made 3-pointers 10 times this season, including a season-low one made three in the season opener against Mansfield Nov. 3.
SAINT JOSEPH NOTES
- Saint Joseph's enters Wednesday's matchup 12-4 overall and are 3-2 in Atlantic 10 play, coming off a 69-60 win over La Salle last Saturday. The Hawks finished last season 24-10 overall and 12-6 in league play, advancing to the second round of the WBIT. Saint Joseph's was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
- The Hawks are led by longtime head coach Cindy Griffin who is in her 25th season at Hawk Hill and is in her 28th season overall as a head coach. She has guided Saint Joseph's to 10 seasons with 20 or more wins and is 434-325 all-time with the Hawks.
- Saint Joseph's is led offensively by Gabby Casey who is averaging 15.7 points per game this season to go along with a team-best 6.8 rebounds per contest. Aleah Snead chips in 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Hawks.
SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies and Hawks are set to meet for the 61st time Wednesday evening at the Reilly Center. Saint Joseph's has dominated the all-time series, holding a 47-13 advantage over the Brown and White. The Hawks have won the previous nine meetings between the two schools.
Bona's last took down the Hawks Jan. 27, 2016, 65-51, at the Reilly Center. Nyla Reuter tallied 16 points to lead the Brown and White.
Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley is 9-16 all-time against Saint Joseph's.

The Bonnies head back out on the road Sunday, Jan. 18 to take on Fordham. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. in The Big Apple.
