Women’s Basketball Visits Duquesne Wednesday

The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team continues Atlantic 10 play Wednesday, Jan. 7 when it travels to take on Duquesne. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. in Pittsburgh.

LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies suffered an 80-60 setback to Atlantic 10 preseason favorite Richmond Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center.

Aaliyah Parker paced the Bonnies with 18 points, six rebounds and five steals while Laycee Drake chipped in 16 points to go with six rebounds and a pair of assists.

Richmond outscored the Bonnies, 22-9, in the third quarter, growing its lead to as many as 21 in the period and proving to be the difference in Saturday's matchup.

60 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
The Bonnies improved to 8-0 when allowing opponents to 60 or fewer points following Wednesday's win over George Washington.

Bona's is allowing just 60.6 points per game which ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10.

DEFENDING THE THREE
The Brown and White currently sit third in the Atlantic 10, holding opponents to a 28.7 shooting percentage from beyond the arc this season.

The Bonnies have held opponents to five or fewer made 3-pointers eight times this season, including a season-low one made three in the season opener against Mansfield Nov. 3.

SWIPER NO SWIPING
The graduate duo of Drake and Parker have also impacted play on the defensive end. Drake and Parker rank 10th and 12th in the Atlantic 10 in steals per game, coming up with 1.9 and 1.8 steals per game, respectively.

IN THE RANKS
Laycee Drake continues to shine for the Brown and White, leading the team in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals this season. Through 15 games, Drake is averaging 16.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game.

She ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, fourth in field goal percentage (47.7 percent), sixth in free throw percentage (85.7 percent) and eighth in steals (29).

Drake's 21 points against George Washington was her fifth game this season with 20 or more points, including a career-high 23 against Cleveland State.

DUQUESNE NOTES

  • Duquesne enters Wednesday's matchup 7-7 overall and are 0-3 in Atlantic 10 play, falling to Davidson, Saint Louis and Dayton to begin the conference slate. The Dukes finished last season 21-14 overall and 9-9 in A-10 play, advancing to the WNIT Super 16. Duquesne was picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
  • The Dukes are coached by Dan Burt who is in his 13th season at the helm in Pittsburgh. Burt is 237-152. He has guided Duquesne to seven seasons with 20 or wins and seven postseason berths, including the 2015-16 NCAA Tournament.
  • Alexis Bordas leads the Dukes offensively, averaging 15.4 points to go along with 3.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest. Gabby Grantham-Medley is averaging 10.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest for Duquesne. On the glass, Harriet Ford is pulling down a team-best 8.7 rebounds per contest.

SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday will be the 72nd matchup all-time between the Bonnies and Dukes, marking the longest running series in St. Bonaventure program history. Duquesne owns a 50-21 record all-time against the Bonnies and have won the previous eight matchups.

The Bonnies own a 5-28 record on the road against Duquesne while Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley is 10-22 against the Dukes.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies are back on the road Saturday, Jan. 10, traveling to take on Rhode Island. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Ryan Center.
