PHILADELPHIA – Despite 16 points in the final nine minutes from
Daniel Egbuniwe and a double-double (12 points, 10 assists) from
Dasonte Bowen, the St. Bonaventure men's basketball team fell to La Salle, 78-74, on Saturday (Jan. 17) at John E. Glaser Arena.
Egbuniwe's 19 total points are a season high. He shot 7-for-12 from the field and 5-for-8 from beyond the arc in the loss. Bowen's double-double is the first points-assists double-double for St. Bonaventure since Kyrell Luc did so against Xavier in 2023 (Jan. 4). Bowen finished the game with no turnovers.
Frank Mitchell led the Bonnies (11-7, 0-5 A-10) in scoring, posting 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists while shooting 12-for-17 from the field.
FIRST HALF
After St. Bonaventure trailed by as many as seven with 12:49 remaining in the first half, the Bonnies went on a 12-0 run over the next six-plus minutes to take a five-point lead. Bowen scored or assisted on six of the 12 points.
In a back-and-forth half that saw eight lead changes, the Bonnies trailed at the half, 38-37. Mitchell and
Cayden Charles each reached double figures with 11 points apiece.
SECOND HALF
In the first minute of the second half, St. Bonaventure scored five unanswered points to take a 42-38 lead. La Salle (6-13, 2-4 A-10) answered with a 7-0 run, retaking the lead.
With 12:38 to play and the game tied at 49, the Explorers went on a 6-0 run, taking a lead they would not relinquish. La Salle's lead extended as high as nine with 7:26 remaining in the game.
Egbuniwe scored 16 of the Bonnies' last 23 points – including four three-pointers in the final 2:24 to bring SBU within two in the final 15 seconds – but the late push fell short as St. Bonaventure lost, 78-74.

The Bonnies will return home to the Reilly Center to face Loyola Chicago on Tuesday (Jan. 20). Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
