DAYTON, Ohio – Laycee Drake matched her career-high with 29 points, but the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Dayton, 75-71, Wednesday evening at UD Arena.
Drake finished the game shooting 12-for-20 from the field to go along with four rebounds and three steals. Aaliyah Parker finished with 17 points for the Brown and White with five rebounds and four steals.
The Bonnies and Flyers traded scores throughout the first 10 minutes of Wednesday's matchup.
Dayton took a late first quarter lead, 15-12, after Nicole Stephens 3-pointer.
The hosts extended their lead early in the second to 19-15.
The Bonnies, however, used a 7-0 run with scores from Parker and Drake to give the Bonnies back the lead, 22-19, midway through the second.
A free throw from Kylie Buckley with under a minute to play in the first half gave the Bonnies a 29-27 lead over the Flyers.
Stephens capped off the first half with five unanswered points to give the Flyers back the lead at halftime, 32-29.
Drake gave the Bonnies their first lead of the second half, 46-45, on a layup with under four minutes to play in the quarter.
An 10-4 burst from the Flyers pushed their lead to 55-50 at the end of three.
Bona's fell behind early in the fourth, 62-53, before rattling off nine unanswered points tie the game, 62-62.
Olivia Lueng put Dayton back on top for good with a three with under three minutes to play.
Parker converted on a 3-pointer with 22 second to play to cut the deficit to four, 75-71.
That is as close as the Bonnies would get as Dayton held on for the win.
Fell behind 62-53 early in the fourth. 7-0 run 62-60.
GAME NOTES
- The Bonnies finished the game shooting 44.1 percent (26-for-59) from the field while Dayton shot 44.1 percent (26-for-59) from the field.
- Bona's registered a season-high 17 steals, including four players with three or more.
- The Brown and White tallied 23 points off 23 Dayton turnovers.
