The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team wraps up its Midwest road swing when it travels to The Windy City to take on Loyola Chicago Saturday, Jan. 31. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET at Gentile Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bonnies battled Dayton for the full 40 minutes but fell to the Flyers, 75-71, Wednesday night.
Laycee Drake matched her career-high with 29 points, finishing the game shooting 12-for-20 from the field to go along with four rebounds and three steals. Aaliyah Parker finished with 17 points for the Brown and White with five rebounds and four steals.
The Bonnies were able to tie the game midway through the fourth quarter, 62-62, following a 9-0 run.
Olivia Lueng put Dayton back on top for good with a three with under three minutes to play.
Parker looked to spark a late comeback with a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left on the clock, but it was too late as the Flyers held on for the victory.
60 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
Bona's is 10-1 this season when allowing 60 or less points, giving up 60.3 points per game. Rhode Island touts the best scoring defense in the A-10, allowing just 54.1 points per contest.
The Brown and White are allowing opponents to shoot just 38.1 percent overall from the floor this season, ranking fifth in the Atlantic 10.
DEFENDING THE THREE
The Brown and White currently sit second in the Atlantic 10 and 39th in the NCAA, holding opponents to a 27.1 shooting percentage from beyond the arc this season.
The Bonnies have held opponents to five or fewer made 3-pointers 12 times this season, including a season-low one made three in the season opener against Mansfield Nov. 3.
SWIPER NO SWIPING
The Bonnies have had fast hands on defense this season, averaging 8.3 steals per game this season.
Aaliyah Parker leads the Bonnies and ranks fifth in the Atlantic 10 this season with 44 steals. Laycee Drake sits just behind Parker with 41 steals, ranking ninth in the A-10. Mackenzie Pettinelli is also averaging over a steal per game with 32 thefts this season which sits 20th in the Atlantic 10.
PARKER'S PROWESS
Aaliyah Parker is approaching 1,500 career points and 700 rebounds, making her one of just 27 active players nationally to achieve those numbers. Her 312 career steals stand fifth among all active players while her 2.84 steals per game are behind only Hannah Hidalgo of Notre Dame and Ny'Ceara Pryor of Texas A&M.
LOYOLA CHICAGO NOTES
- Loyola Chicago enters the weekend 9-11 overall and 5-4 in Atlantic 10 play, winning three straight conference matchups against George Washington, La Salle and Saint Louis. The Ramblers finished last season 13-17 overall and 5-13 against Atlantic 10 opponents. Loyola was picked to finish 13th in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
- Alex-Anne Bessette leads the Ramblers in scoring this season, averaging 12.4 points per game. Alexa Kinas is also averaging double figures for Loyola Chicago, chipping in 10.1 points per contest. On the glass, Brooklyn Vaughn is pulling down a team-best 6.1 boards per game.
- Allison Guth is in her fourth season as the head coach at Loyola Chicago, touting a 43-68 record with the Ramblers. Guth is in her 10th season overall as a head coach, spending six seasons at Yale and is 142-142 for her coaching career.
SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies and Ramblers are set to meet for the fifth time Saturday afternoon. The all-time series is tied 2-2 with Loyola Chicago winning the previous two matchups between the two schools.
Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley is 1-2 all-time against Loyola Chicago.
