Box Score ST. BONAVENTURE N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team fell 5-0 against Fordham at the Marra Athletics Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Bonnies (3-7-1, 0-4 A10) earned the first real chance of the game in the 11th minute as sophomore Aya Reybitz played a ball over the Fordham back line and found teammate Audrey Cadman in the box. Cadman was able to line up a shot, but a Rams defender caught up to block the shot and keep it scoreless.
Fordham (4-6-1, 1-3 A10) provided pressure on offense throughout the first 15 minutes, however, a handful of saves from Bona's senior goalkeeper Juliana Castellano and crucial blocks from the back line tamed any hopes of an opening goal for the visitors.
The Rams would take a 1-0 advantage in the 29th minute off the foot of Julia Acosta and would double that lead just seven minutes later after a goal from Line Muller.
Castellano finished the first half with six total saves recorded.
SBU nearly cut the deficit in the 38th minute, but freshman Liana Tata's free kick opportunity from distance ricocheted off the crossbar.
A second half hat trick from Riley Carroll as she scored in the 63rd, 74th and 87th minutes would increase the Rams lead and put the contest out of reach.
Bona's freshman goalkeeper Holland Burkhalter entered the game late in the second half and tallied her first collegiate save.
The Bonnies again came close to scoring late in the second half when Eduarda Silva lined up a shot from the left edge of the box, but her attempt sailed just over the net, effectively closing the books on any scoring hopes for the hosts.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH RAY LEONE
"All we can do is watch tape, learn, get better and improve every single day. We just have to eliminate some of the unforced errors. I think that's where we are hurting ourselves the most. We're defending okay and then we turn it over in bad spots. We have to improve that first."
