The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team seeks its first win of the year after dropping a back-and-forth battle in the opener vs. Colgate last week as they welcome Long Island to the Marra Athletics Complex Friday at 12:00 p.m.
Â
LEADING THE CHARGE
Senior
Rylee Gonzalez led the Bonnies last Friday against Colgate as she posted five points (4G-1A), adding a caused turnover and a ground ball. The performance marks the fourth time in her career that she has scored at least five points in a single game. Her career highs came last season against Duquesne when she notched eight points on five goals and three assists.
Â
ADDING SUPPORT
Sophomore
Maddie Pieloch and senior captain
Brooke Piper both registered three points each against Colgate to help SBU in the fight. Pieloch tallied one goal and dished out two assists while adding three ground balls. Prior to the matchup, she had tallied just one point in her career coming from a goal last season against Stetson.
Piper scored twice and assisted another goal while controlling six total draws on the day. With that performance, the captain moved into ninth place on the Bonnies' all-time career points list (151) and surpassed 200 career draw controls.
Other Bonnies finding the back of the net were
Sidney Van Tassel,
Olivia Peeler,
Riley Milligan and
Grace Hollenbeck.
Â
CONTROLLING THE TURF
The Brown and White won the ground ball battle against Colgate, collecting 19 to the visitors' 12. Five different Bonnies notched three ground balls each, those being Pieloch, Hollenbeck, Peeler and senior captains
Brit Colangelo and
Kate Hennessey. Colangelo's tallies propelled her to eighth on SBU's career ground balls list (135).Â

ABOUT LONG ISLAND
- Long Island is coached by Meghan McNamara-Cafiero in her 19th season as the program's leader. A 2023 inductee into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame, she led the Sharks to appearances to two straight NCAA Tournament in 2024 and 2025 where they fell to Virginia twice.
- The Sharks went 12-7 last year with an impressive 8-1 record in the Northeast Conference. Despite starting the season with four straight losses, the squad got back on track late in non-conference play and carried momentum into the conference slate and NEC Tournament.
- The team was selected first in the NEC Preseason Poll and swept all 10 first-place votes.
- The Sharks already have one victory vs. an Atlantic 10 opponent as LIU defeated George Mason in their season opener this past Monday, winning by a score of 9-6 as junior Taylor Foresi notched a hat trick.
SERIES HISTORY
This Friday's meeting will be the first between St. Bonaventure and Long Island. The Sharks began their first season of Division I competition in 2020.
