HAMPTON, Va. – The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team benefited from an overall strong performance on Friday at the Atlantic 10 Championships highlighted by bronze medals from both junior
Kevyn Collazo Torres and the 400-medley relay team.
Â
The Bonnies sit in third place with 351.5 points after the third day of competition. George Washington leads the team standings with 535.33 points followed by George Mason with 410.16 points. Trailing SBU are La Salle (317), Davidson (274), Fordham (239) and Saint Louis (229).
Â
Collazo Torres earned his bronze medal in the 400-IM as he registered a time of 3:53.27 in the championship final. He qualified for that opportunity with a mark of 3:53.04 in the prelims. He was followed by sophomore
Connor Peck in the prelims (4:02.50), who qualified for the consolation final where he took the top spot (3:55.93).
Â
Sophomores
Grant Chapa and
Mark Mizsei, senior
Mark Polos and freshman
Emanuele Zingaro combined for the other SBU bronze medal as they collectively clocked in at 3:14.16 in the 400-medley relay.
Â
Mizsei added to his successful day with a program record during a 100-fly slate which was packed with Bonnies swimmers. The sophomore set the new Bonaventure record in the prelims (46.65) which he improved upon with a fourth-place finish in the championship final (46.49), beating out the previous record of 47.44 set by
Alexander Behr in 2023. The Budapest, Hungary native missed the podium in the finals by just seven-tenths of a second.
Â
Finishing behind Mizsei in the 100-fly championship final were freshman
David Mutter in sixth place (47.72) and junior
Joseph Pyon in a tie for seventh-place (48.06). The two qualified with preliminary times of 47.64 and 47.93, respectively. Of the 16 swimmers who advanced following the event's prelims, a whopping five of them registered the same exact time as Pyon in the finals.
Â
Adding to SBU's control of the 100-fly heats were freshman
Willyan Haruo Matana and senior
Henry Wilkes. Haruo Matana posted marks of 48.74 in the prelims and 48.86 in the consolation final, where he took seventh place. Wilkes found the eighth spot in the finals (49.00) after clocking in at 48.76 in the prelims to qualify.

Â
Freshman

Quinn Borchers qualified for the 3-meter dive consolation finals with preliminary scores of 273.30 and 155.15 points respectively. Huetll followed up with 300.10 points to take first place in the group while Borchers slotted in at seventh place with 151.00 points.
