Bonnies Softball Drops Pair at ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell in a pair of games Saturday evening on day two of the Pirate Classic hosted by East Carolina.

The Bonnies dopped game one to the Pirates, 9-1, before falling in the night cap to JMU, 7-2.

Game 1 – East Carolina 9, St. Bonaventure 1 – 5 Innings
The Pirates were able to jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a single and a triple.

The hosts doubled their lead to 4-0 in the second on a pair of fielder's choices.

The Bonnies pulled one back in the top of the third when Abigail Ahern came across to score on an error.

East Carolina, however, plated four in the fourth on a single, a pair of doubles and an RBI groundout, taking an 8-1 lead.

The Pirates secured the win, scoring on a hit by pitch in the bottom of the fifth.

Colsten Beers and Ahern collected two hits each for the Bonnies.

Game 2 – James Madison 7, St. Bonaventure 2
James Madison scored first, plating a pair of runs on a double in the bottom of the first.

The Dukes tacked on two more runs in the third on a triple and an error.

The Bonnies pulled one back in the top of the fourth when Grace Miller singled home Ahern, making the score 3-1.

JMU got the run right back on a sacrifice fly before taking a five-run lead on a single in the bottom half of the fourth.

Kendall Stull singled home Beers in the top of the fifth, but the Dukes answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI double.

That would be all the Dukes would need to hang on for the win.

The Bonnies wrap up play Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. against Towson.
