Bonnies Battle on Day One at Longhorn Invitational

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Bonaventure University softball team opened play at the Longhorn Invitational Friday in the Lonestar State against Prairie View A&M and Houston.

The Bonnies fell to the Panthers, 8-0, before battling the Cougars in a 3-1 loss in the night cap.

Game 1 – Prairie View A&M 8, St. Bonaventure 0 – 5 Innings
The Panthers came out swinging in Friday's opener, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning on a pair of sacrifice flies and a two-run triple.

Prairie View A&M tacked on four more runs in second on two singles, a ground out and a wild pitch.

That would be all the Panthers would need to secure the win.

Colsten Beers and Lauren Dundon each registered doubles for the Brown and White.

Ava Lomelin scattered five hits across 1.1 innings of work while Jayden Szkatulski and Kylie Bickert each pitched in relief.

Game 2 – Houston 3, St. Bonaventure 1
The Cougars scored first in game two, scoring a pair in the top of the second on a single and a double.

Bonnies starter Mackenzie Frani kept Houston off the board in the third and fourth innings.

Houston, however, was able to add a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI groundout.

Following an Abigail Ahern double, pinch hitter Kymora Wang lined a double that scored Ahern and cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Cougars looked to extend their lead in the top of the seventh, loading the bases, but Bickert was able to work out of the jam and keep the score at a two-run game.

Houston would retire the Bonnies in order in the bottom of the seventh to capture the win.

Beers also collected a hit for the Bonnies.

Frani scattered just five hits over 5.0 innings of work while striking out five. Bickert worked the final two innings in relief, striking out one while not allowing a hit.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday morning when they take on Incarnate Word at 10:30 a.m. followed by a matchup with the reigning national champion Texas Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. on SEC Network+.
