FAIRFAX, Va. – The St. Bonaventure men's basketball team fell to George Mason, 71-58, on Saturday (Feb. 28) at EagleBank Arena.
Frank Mitchell tallied his fifth straight double-double in the loss.
Mitchell recorded 15 points and 16 rebounds, tied for his second-most boards in a game this season. Seven of his 16 rebounds were on the offensive end, bringing his season offensive rebound total to a Division I-leading 127.
Dasonte Bowen scored a team-best 16 points, while Buddy Simmons II recorded 14 points behind 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc.
FIRST HALF
George Mason (22-7, 10-6 Atlantic 10) opened the first half with a 14-2 run, taking a lead that it would hold throughout the game. The Bonnies (15-14, 3-12 A-10) would pull within seven at the 6:17 mark after back-to-back triples by Simmons II, but the Patriots answered by outscoring St. Bonaventure 14-9 in the remaining six minutes before the break.
George Mason led, 39-27, at the half. Mitchell, Bowen and Simmons II were the only Bonnies to enter the scoring column before halftime, scoring nine points each.
SECOND HALF
St. Bonaventure came out of the locker room hot, going on a 7-0 run thanks to three-pointers by
Daniel Egbuniwe and Simmons II. However, George Mason responded with an 8-0 run of its own, taking a 13-point lead.
The Bonnies failed to cut their deficit to single digits the rest of the way. George Mason extended the gap to 20 points with 3:05 to play, but St. Bonaventure held the Patriots scoreless the rest of the game, finishing the contest on a 7-0 run to secure a 71-58 result.

The Bonnies will return to the DMV on Wednesday (March 4) to face George Washington at the Charles E. Smith Center. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
NOTES:
- Mitchell's double-double was his 17th of the season, more than twice as many as any other Atlantic 10 player.
- Mitchell sits at 986 career points, just 14 points away from 1,000. He would be the third player to cross the 1,000-point threshold this season.
- Simmons II has made multiple three-pointers in 11 straight games, reaching double figures in every game during that span.
- Freshman Andrew Osasuyi is shooting 83.3 percent (20-for-24) from the field in his last six games.
- Osasuyi and Joe Grahovac have combined for at least four blocks in five of their last six games.
