Bonnies Drop Overtime Battle at George Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After erasing a five-point deficit in the final two minutes of regulation to force overtime, the St. Bonaventure men's basketball team fell to George Washington, 91-82, on Wednesday night (March 4) at the Charles E. Smith Center.

Frank Mitchell tallied his sixth straight double-double with 22 points and a season-high tying 18 rebounds. Cayden Charles and Buddy Simmons II each chipped in with 20 and 19 points, respectively.

FIRST HALF
The two teams traded baskets early on, with George Washington (17-14, 7-9 Atlantic 10) taking a seven-point advantage behind a 10-0 run with 10:26 before the halftime buzzer. However, St. Bonaventure (15-15, 4-13 A-10) answered with a 10-0 run of its own, claiming a five-point lead with 3:35 on the clock.

The Revolutionaries outscored the Bonnies 9-3 in the remaining minutes before halftime, taking a 36-35 lead into the break.

SECOND HALF
George Washington led for 16 minutes and 31 seconds of the second half, building its lead as high as eight.

With 1:25 left in regulation and the Bonnies down five, Dasonte Bowen drew a foul and made one-of-two free throws. St. Bonaventure got a stop at the other end, and after a scramble for a loose ball was recovered by Bowen, he found Joe Grahovac on the wing for a three-pointer to pull SBU within one.

GW made one-of-two free throws in its next trip, opening the door for the Bonnies to take the lead with a three or tie the game with a two. As he was driving to the rim, Simmons II took a hard foul and buried both free throws, tying the game at 73. SBU prevented the Revolutionaries from getting a shot off on their last possession, forcing overtime.

OVERTIME
George Washington outscored St. Bonaventure 18-9 in overtime, sealing a 91-82 result.
