BRONX, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's basketball team will play in the first rematch of its Atlantic 10 schedule at Fordham on Saturday (Feb. 7) at Rose Hill Gymnasium. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. ET, and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
BUDDY BUCKETS
Buddy Simmons II enters Saturday's game at 995 career points, just five points away from 1,000. Simmons II scored 628 points over two years at Gardner-Webb before posting 367 through 23 games this season. He tallied 539 of his 628 points with the Runnin' Bulldogs during his sophomore season (2024-25).
Simmons II has lit up the scoreboard in Atlantic 10 play, averaging 17.8 points through 10 conference games while shooting 47.1 percent (64-for-136) from the floor and 44.9 percent (31-for-69) from beyond the arc.
Simmons II has scored at least 14 points in 7-of-10 A-10 matchups, with 20-or-more points in four of those games.
The Detroit native scored a team-best 17 points on Tuesday at Dayton (Feb. 3), 13 of which came in the second half.
Simmons II is the one of just three Atlantic 10 players to make 60-or-more three-pointers this season. He has made multiple three-pointers in 18 of the Bonnies' 23 games.
In conference play, Simmons II has made 31 triples, tied for second most in the A-10. His 37.7 minutes per game lead the league, and he has played a full 40 minutes in six of SBU's 10 conference game so far.
QUITE FRANKLY
St. Bonaventure forward
Frank Mitchell has been one of the most productive players on the boards in the country this season.
Mitchell is averaging 9.8 rebounds per game, which leads all players in the Atlantic 10 conference. As of Thursday (Feb. 5), he is 10th in the nation in total rebounds with 226. He is one of just two St. Bonaventure players in the last four years to surpass 200 rebounds in a season (
Chance Moore, 207; 2024-25).
A remarkable number of Mitchell's rebounds have come on the offensive end. His 99 total offensive rebounds (4.3 per game) rank second in Division I.
Mitchell has tallied double-digit offensive rebounds two games this season, with a season-best 11 against Colgate (Dec. 10) and 10 vs. Ohio (Dec. 13).
Mitchell is no stranger to the top of the national rebounding leaderboards. In 2023-24 with Canisius, he averaged 11.6 rebounds per game, the fourth-most in Division I.
In the scoring column, Mitchell has scored in double figures in 20 of 23 games this season. He has scored 20-or-more points in seven games this season.
On Tuesday at Dayton, Mitchell posted his league-best 12th double-double. The senior had 16 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 6-for-10 from the field.
Against George Mason last Saturday (Jan. 31), Mitchell led all scorers with 25 points. He shot 69.2 percent from the floor (9-for-13) in the loss.
Although Mitchell had a quiet night offensively against Duquesne (Jan. 28), he posted a career-best seven assists as he battled through early foul trouble. Mitchell was credited with an assist on each of St. Bonaventure's first five field goals in the Bonnies' road win.
DASONTE DELIVERS
Dasonte Bowen has picked up his offensive production of late, averaging 16.0 points per game over his last four games. Bowen is shooting 62.5 percent (19-of-31) and while going 12-for-13 (92.3 percent) from the free throw line.
The scoring surge has Bowen averaging double figures (10.1 points per game) for the first time this season. The Bonnies now have four scorers averaging 10-or-more points per game: Mitchell (16.4), Simmons II (16.0),
Cayden Charles (12.5) and Bowen.
Bowen has been an extremely effective playmaker this season, averaging 4.8 assists per game over the course of the season. He has recorded three-or-more assists in 20-of-23 games this season.
Bowen's assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.71 leads the Atlantic 10 among players averaging 3.0 assists or more.
COUNT ON CAYDEN
Cayden Charles has been pivotal to the Bonnies' offense in conference play. The 6-foot-3 guard is averaging 13.3 points and 6.4 rebounds in St. Bonaventure's 10 Atlantic 10 games.
The senior has scored at least nine points in 14 straight games, grabbing at least five rebounds in 12 games during that span.
BLOCK PARTY
Joe Grahovac and
Andrew Osasuyi have each provided tremendous shot-blocking ability this season. Both players rank in the top 10 in the conference in blocks per game, with Grahovac ranked third (1.7 bpg) and Osasuyi tied for 7th (1.3).
Grahovac has a team-best 39 total blocks this season. He has recorded three-or-more blocks in seven games.
Osasuyi is averaging 1.3 blocks despite playing just 10.2 minutes per game. On Jan. 23 against Saint Louis, the Magenta (Italy) native tallied a career-best five blocks. It was the most blocks in a single game by a St. Bonaventure player since Chad Venning had six in 2024 (Jan. 17 vs. Rhode Island).
FORDHAM NOTES:
- Fordham enters Saturday's matchup at 12-11, with a 3-7 record in conference play.
- The Rams defeated St. Bonaventure in the two teams' first matchup on Jan. 10.
- Dejour Reaves scored a season-best 31 points in the win for the Rams. It is tied with Buddy Simmons II's 31-point game at Duquesne (Jan. 28) as the best scoring performance by any player in the A-10 this season.
- Reaves leads the conference with 17.6 points per game.
- St. Bonaventure leads the all-time series between the two schools, 32-21.
- Mark Schmidt is 20-7 in his career against the Rams.
