COMMERCE, Texas – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a pair of games at the East Texas A&M Leadoff Friday evening in the Lonestar State.
The Bonnies kicked off play against Stephen F. Austin, falling to the Lumberjacks 14-0 in six innings. Bona's battled in the night cap against host East Texas A&M but fell 4-1.
GAME 1 – Stephen F. Austin 14, St. Bonaventure 0 – F/6
Stephen F. Austin jumped out to an early lead, grabbing a pair of first-inning runs on a single through the right side of the infield.
The Lumberjacks tacked on two more runs in the top of the second before pushing their lead to five runs in the top of the fifth.
SFA took complete control of the game in the sixth, plating nine runs to secure the victory.
Sophomore Nolah Moyer collected a double for the Brown and White.
GAME 2 – East Texas A&M 4, St. Bonaventure 1
The Lions got out to a fast start in the bottom of the first when Tatum Wright connected on a solo home run to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
The Bonnies, however, answered with a solo shot of their own when freshman Grace Miller belted her first collegiate home run in the top of the second.
The game remained deadlocked until the fifth.
East Texas A&M broke through for a pair of runs in the fifth, scoring on an double and a single in the inning to take a 3-1 lead over the Brown and White.
The Lions tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on their second solo home run of the ballgame.
Mackenzie Frani struck out nine batters over 5.1 innings of work for the Bonnies while Jayden Szkatulski worked 0.2 innings in relief.
The Bonnies are back in action at 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday afternoon against Texas Southern.
