FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason claimed a pitchers' duel in Sunday's Atlantic 10 series finale over the St. Bonaventure baseball team, 3-0.
Bona starter Enger Paulino and counterpart Jake Drumm for George Mason matched each other zero for zero until the home fifth when a Bonnies throwing error allowed an unearned run to cross the plate for the game's first tally.
In the seventh, the Patriots (9-8, 3-0 A-10) picked up insurance on RBI singles from Lucas Alberti and Luciano Terilli.
That was more than enough for the duo of Drumm (7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K) and Owen Stewart (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) who struck out nine without a walk combined and did not allow an extra base hit to Bonnies (4-14, 0-3) hitters.
Paulino (6.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 8 BB, 3 K) worked around some wildness to keep the Bonnies in the game. Joey Calabretti did not allow a base runner out of the bullpen, picking up the staff's final four outs.
St. Bonaventure is off until Friday, March 20 when the Bonnies open a three-game A-10 series vs. Saint Louis. That series will be played at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa. due to on-going construction at Fred Handler Park.
