Fordham Powers Past Bonnies in Home Opener

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Fordham on Saturday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Bonnies dropped game one, 4-1, and fell 12-3 in game two.

Game 1 – Fordham 4, St. Bonaventure 1
The Rams took the lead out of the gate with a pair of RBI singles in the first, giving them a 2-0 lead.

Fordham added two more runs to their lead in the second, with back-to-back RBI hits to push its lead to 4-0.

The Bonnies responded with their first run of the game in the bottom of the second. After consecutive hits from Kendall Stull and Kymora Wang and a walk from Abigail Ahern to load the bases, Colsten Beers put the ball in play and brought one run home on an error to make it 4-1.

After the second inning, neither team was able to put another run on the board.

Jayden Szkatulski threw 1.1 scoreless innings in relief for St. Bonaventure.

Game 2 – Fordham 12, St. Bonaventure 3 – 5 Innings
Fordham once again got out to a quick start in game two. Following a leadoff walk and hit to start the inning, the Rams got their first run on the board with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

St. Bonaventure responded in the bottom of the first with a run of their own. Colsten Beers led the inning off with a single and moved to third on back-to-back groundouts. Beers came in to score on a wild pitch, evening the score at 1-1.

The Rams added to their lead in the second. After two singles led off the inning, Fordham picked up two runs on a throwing error and a single. St. Bonaventure recorded two outs, but the Rams then added three more runs in the inning to make it 6-1.

Both offenses were held quiet until the fourth inning. In the top of the frame, Fordham picked up six runs on three hits. In the bottom of the fourth, St. Bonaventure added two runs on a pair of solo home runs from Kymora Wang and Annabel Burke, making it a 12-3 game.

That is as close as the Bonnies would get as Fordham closed out the run-rule victory.
