Bonnies Stand Strong to Secure 9-7 Win in Series Finale Against Fordham

ST. BONAVENTURE, NY – The St. Bonaventure University softball team held off a late comeback attempt from Fordham, picking up a 9-7 win in the series finale against the Rams Sunday morning.

The Bonnies got out to an early lead with a first inning rally. After a two-out walk from Nolah Moyer and a double from Lauren Dundon, Kymora Wang delivered a three-run home run over the center field wall to make it a 3-0 game.

After escaping a bases loaded jam in the top of the second, St. Bonaventure added to their lead in the bottom of the frame. With one out, Grace Miller hit a solo home run off the left field foul pole, extending the lead to 4-0. Nolah Moyer added to the lead later in the inning, smacking a 2-RBI double down the right field line to make it a 6-0 game.

SBU continued their offensive outburst in the third. The Bonnies loaded the bases to start the inning and scored one run on a pass ball. With two outs, Sydney DeGram brought in another run for the Bonnies with an RBI single to center, giving the Bonnies an 8-0 lead.

Fordham put their first runs on the board in the fourth. The Rams strung together three hits early in the inning to bring in one run. With runners on first and third with two outs, Fordham hit a three-run home run to slash the Bonnies lead to 8-4.

The Rams continued to cut into the lead in the fifth inning. After getting the leadoff hitter on with a walk, Fordham hit a two-run home run to left center. The Bonnies maintained an 8-6 lead after five.

Fordham added to their comeback attempt in the sixth. The Rams led the inning off with a triple down the right field line and brought the runner home with an RBI groundout to make it 8-7.

After an hour-long rain delay, the Bonnies responded in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back doubles from DeGram and Moyer, giving SBU a 9-7 lead.

Bonnies' pitcher Kendall Stull shut down the Rams in the seventh to secure the save. Stull pitched three innings in relief for St. Bonaventure, allowing only three hits and one earned run.

UP NEXT
St. Bonaventure will host Youngstown State for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday, March 24. Game one is slated to start at 3:00 p.m.
