Ramblers Take Saturday Doubleheader from Bonnies

CHICAGO – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a pair of games on the road at Loyola Chicago Saturday afternoon.

The Ramblers walked off game one in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 win and bested the Bonnies, 4-1, in game two.

Game 1 – Loyola Chicago 5, St. Bonaventure 4
The Ramblers took the game's first lead in the bottom of the third, scoring four runs in the inning.

Two runs came across to score on an error before an RBI double and an RBI single brought home two more runs, making it a 4-0 game.

The Bonnies pulled one back in the top half of the fifth when Sydney DeGram reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Ella Amato to score.

Bona's used a two-out rally in the top of the sixth to pull within one late in the game.

Jayden Szkatulski reached on a single that brought home Kendall Stull. Colsten Beers followed her by dropping in a single that scored Grace Miller, cutting the Bonnies deficit to 4-3.

The Bonnies were able to tie the game in the top of the seventh on an RBI single off the bat of Miller.

The Ramblers, however, scored the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out single to left field.

Beers, Miller, Stull and Lauren Dundon all registered multi-hit games for the Brown and White while DeGram also collected a hit.

Stull, Szkatulski and Ava Lomelin combined to scatter nine hits and struck out a pair.

Game 2 – Loyola Chicago 4, St. Bonaventure 1
Loyola Chicago pulled ahead of the Bonnies in the bottom of the first on a single and an error.

The Ramblers extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth with a pair of RBI doubles.

The hosts tacked on a fourth run of the game in the fifth inning. The Ramblers had the bases loaded with one out in the frame, but the Bonnies were able to work out of the jam with a double play.

The Bonnies looked to start a rally in the top of the seventh when Dundon singled home DeGram, making it a 4-1 game in favor of the Ramblers.

That is as close as the Bonnies would get, however, as Loyola Chicago closed on the game, securing the doubleheader sweep.

Abigail Ahern and DeGram also registered hits in the ballgame.

Mackenzie Frani struck out three over 4.1 innings of work for the Brown and White.
