Bonnies Split Saturday Twinbill with Flyers

DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University softball team split Saturday's doubleheader to begin a three-game series on the road.

Bona's grabbed game one from the Flyers, 4-2, but the hosts rebounded for a 2-1 victory in game two.

Game 1 – St. Bonaventure 4, Dayton 2
The Flyers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Bonnies in the bottom of the first with a two-run home run.

Lauren Dundon cut the Bonnies deficit in half with a first-pitch solo home run to lead off the top of the second.

The Bonnies tied the game in the top of the fourth when Sydney DeGram crossed home on a double steal. On the next pitch, Kymora Wang doubled to the gap, scoring the pinch runner Ella Amato from second to give the Bonnies a 3-2 lead.

Grace Miller pushed the Bonnies lead to two during the next at-bat, singling down right field line and allowing Wang to come around and score.

That would be all the run support Bonnies starter Mackenzie Frani would need as she went the distance to secure the victory. She scattered six hits while striking out four for the Brown and White.

Game 2 – Dayton 2, St. Bonaventure 1
It was a pitcher's duel until the bottom of the fourth when the Flyers were able to break through on the scoreboard with an RBI single to left field.

The Flyers added another run in the inning on an error, taking a 2-0 lead after four.

The Bonnies looked to start a rally in the top of the sixth when Abigail Ahern lined a lead off double to left-center field.

Ahern would come around to score on an error a few batters later, cutting the Bonnies deficit to 2-1.

That is as close as the Bonnies would get, however, as Dayton retired the side in order in the top of the seventh.

Kendall Stull struck out a pair over 5.0 innings of work.
