Bonnies Tie Niagara in Midweek Baseball

LEWISTON, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure vs. Niagara baseball rivalry includes more than 130 chapters over the decades, but Tuesday's game represented a rarity as the Bonnies and Purple Eagles finished in a 4-4 tie after 10 innings.

The Bonnies built a four-run lead in the early going.

In the third, Bona pushed across the first run of the game following a Niagara error that allowed a groundout from Anthony Fernandez to plate a tally.

SBU scored three times in the fourth as Alex Hebenstreit singled through the left side for an RBI before two Niagara wild pitches allowed Bonnies runs to come across.

Niagara came all the way back in the seventh by scoring four times on five hits while also using a Bona error to tie up the game.

In the 10th, Bonnies reliever James Capellupo picked off a Niagara runner between second and third to end NU's threat for the winning run.

Following the 10th inning, the game concluded after reaching the agreed upon mid-week innings limit.

Nolan Feidt started and worked three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Eamon Giblin recorded five outs without a run in relief. Capellupo finished the game by tossing three scoreless frames, surrendering just one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.

It marks the sixth tie all-time between the Bonnies and Purple Eagles and the first since 2016. The 2016 game which ended in a 1-1 tie was the last tie in any game for the Bonnies prior to Tuesday's contest.
