ST. BONAVANTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's basketball program has signed forward Ryan Kalambay, head coach
Mike MacDonald announced Tuesday (April 21). Kalambay, a Brampton, Ontario native, continues the Bonnies' storied history recruiting big men from the Greater Toronto area.
Kalambay is set to join an elite fraternity of big men from southern Ontario to don the Brown and White, including former NBA first round pick Andrew Nicholson,
Frank Mitchell, Caswell Cyrus, and Vidal Massiah.
"Ryan is a guy who plays really hard," MacDonald said. "He continues to develop offensively and he's very good at protecting the rim and rebounding the basketball. We think his best days are still ahead of him. He had a very productive second half of the season this past year and we're looking forward to watching him build on that."
Kalambay averaged 3.8 points per game over two seasons at Detroit Mercy. As a sophomore, Kalambay was a key contributor for the Titans, averaging 4.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game while taking over the starting center role in Detroit Mercy's final 13 games of the season. As a freshman, he earned Horizon League Freshman of the Week on Jan. 20 following a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double against Oakland.
The 6-foot-9 forward was one of just 19 players in all of Division I basketball to record an "elite" block percentage and offensive rebound percentage last season, according to HD Intelligence.
