Last Weekend
The Bonnies closed out their sweep of Rhode Island in a tight contest on Saturday afternoon. St. Bonaventure got off to a quick start, with Christian LaMothe and Joey Calabretti coming through with RBIs to make it 2-0. After the Rams tied the game in the top of the third, Anthony Fernandez answered in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run. The Bonnies extended their lead to 4-2 in the fourth, but Rhode Island rallied to tie the game with runs in the fifth and seventh innings. In the eighth, Fernandez delivered an RBI single that would end up bringing home the game-winning run. On the mound, Tristian Ciampa and Derek Duval combined to throw eight innings and Joey Calabretti threw a shutout ninth for his second save of the weekend.

Never Halfway
Senior pitcher David James went the distance, throwing a complete game in the Bonnies' game one win last Friday. It marked James' second complete game in his last three starts with the other being a shutout win over George Washington. The last Bonnies' pitcher to throw two complete nine inning games in the same season was Aaron Phillips in 2017, who went on to win Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year honors and was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the ninth round of the MLB Draft following that season.

On A Hot Streak
Entering into this week, Joey Calabretti was hitting .400 over his last 10 games. During that span, he has smacked five home runs for 15 RBIs. During the Rhode Island series, he did it all with eight RBIs at the plate and two saves on the mound, not allowing a run in three innings of work in relief.

Joey Bruno has also come alive at the plate as of late, hitting .303 with a .415 on-base percentage over the last 10 games entering this week.

Career Milestones
Senior Chris Hoalcraft enters this weekend with 44 career stolen bases, passing Kevin Suminski '09 and Jesse Bosnik '10 to take over eighth all-time in the Bonnies record book. Next up: Scott Allen '90 who finished his Bona career with 47 stolen bags. The all-time record of 93 belongs to John Boccieri '92.

Junior catcher Antonio Cordeiro is closing on 100 career hits, owning 92 at the start of this weekend's series. One year after leading the Atlantic 10 in base runners thrown out with 19, Cordeiro has already set a new career high with 21 runners thrown out this season, ranking second in the A-10 behind only La Salle's Jayden Novak who has 23. The Bonnies season record is 23 by Michael Grieco in 2012. For his career, Cordeiro has thrown out 52 attempted base stealers.

Dayton Notes

  • Dayton boasts one of the Atlantic 10's top offenses, leading the league in batting average (.301), doubles (85), hits (417), home runs (65), runs (339) and on-base percentage (.422).
  • Conversely, the Flyers have struggled keeping teams off the scoreboard: Dayton is 10th in A-10 ERA at 6.92 and ninth in WHIP at 1.76.
  • Danny MacDougall leads the A-10 and stands 10th nationally with a .416 batting average this season as well as 22 doubles to rank second in the country in two-baggers. Jason Bello has cracked 13 home runs to place third in the A-10 standings. MacDougall's .505 on-base percentage is also an A-10 best while Michael Smith checks in at .495 to stand third in the league.
  • The Bonnies and Flyers are tied in the A-10 standings, each at 6-12. This weekend's series could effectively eliminate one of the teams from the A-10 Tournament running as both squads start the weekend three games out of the sixth and final tourney spot. Fordham, George Washington and Rhode Island are all currently tied for that spot at 9-9 while Saint Louis is 7-11.
