Penguins Prove Too Much for Bonnies in Midweek Doubleheader

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped a pair of games to Youngstown State on the road Wednesday afternoon.

The Penguins grabbed game one from the Bonnies, 8-0, and took game two, 13-5.

Game 1 – Youngstown State 8, St. Bonaventure 0 – 5 Innings
It was a pitcher's duel in game one through the first three and a half innings.

The Penguins broke through in the bottom of the fourth, scoring the game's first runs on a three-run home run off the bat of Kennedy Dean.

Youngstown State pushed across five more runs in the fourth to take a commanding 8-0 lead over the Bonnies.

That would be all the hosts would need to secure the victory.

Sydney DeGram registered a hit for the Bonnies.

Game 2 – Youngstown State 13, St. Bonaventure 5 – 5 Innings
The Bonnies jumped ahead early in game two following back-to-back hits from Colsten Beers and Abigail Ahern in the top of the first.

DeGram started the scoring with an RBI groundout before Lauren Dundon singled home the Bonnies second run of the inning.

The Penguins, however, were able to take their first lead of game two with three runs on a pair of singles in the bottom of the second.

The Bonnies were quick to retake the lead in the top of the third, scoring a pair on a Dundon double and another run on an RBI single from Nolah Moyer, giving the Bonnies a 5-3 edge.

Youngstown State answered with a pair in the bottom half of the third on an RBI single and an error, tying the game through three full innings.

An eight-run bottom half of the fourth proved to be the difference in game two as the Penguins were able to pull away for the win.
