ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to George Washington, 9-1, in the opening game of a three-game series at Joyce Field Friday afternoon.
The Revolutionaries jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring on three doubles, a walk and a sacrifice fly.
The visitors tacked on two more runs in the top of the third on a double and a wild pitch, taking an 8-0 advantage over the Brown and White.
The Bonnies pulled one back in the bottom of the fourth when Abigail Ahern lined a single to right field that got past the fielder, allowing Ahern to come all the way around to score.
George Washington, however, pushed its lead back to eight in the top of the fifth, plating a run on an error.
The Bonnies looked to mount a rally in the bottom half of the fifth, advancing runners to first and second, but George Washington was able to work out of the inning for the victory.
