ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Spring semester brought outstanding success in the classroom for St. Bonaventure student-athletes as Bonnies compiled a 3.447 semester GPA to wrap up a standout academic year.

Out of 385 active Bonnies student-athletes, a total of 310 recorded a semester GPA of 3.0 or better as 81 percent of the department achieved that milestone. A total of 82 percent of current Bonnies student-athletes (316) own a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Nearly 70 percent of Bona's Division I athletes (267) reached a 3.25 semester GPA while over half of the department (204 student-athletes) earned Dean's List status of 3.50 or above. Most impressively, 55 student-athletes registered a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester.

"Our Bonnies are true scholar-athletes in every sense and continue to represent St. Bonaventure University with great character and dignity in their competitive arenas and in the classroom," said St. Bonaventure Vice President and Director of Athletics Bob Beretta. "I couldn't be more proud of who they are as leaders and what they represent."

Cumulatively, 51 percent of the department boasts a career GPA of 3.50 or higher as 197 Bonnies are at that level following the most recent semester.

Sixteen Bonnies Division I programs turned in a team semester GPA of 3.20 or above. The highest achieving teams were women's tennis (3.79), women's soccer (3.73), women's cross country/track (3.70), men's tennis (3.62) and softball (3.60).

Bonnies traditionally are high achievers in the classroom: This marks the 42nd consecutive semester where the department has posted a GPA of over 3.0 cumulatively.

"The remarkable academic performance of our student-athletes is a testament to the incredible commitment across our campus -- from faculty, who continue to go above and beyond to assist our student-athletes, to our coaches and Athletics staff, who prioritize academics and a culture of excellence, to of course the student-athletes themselves, who continue to put in the hard work required to excel," Beretta added. "The common thread is that our entire community greatly values a St. Bonaventure University education. Our graduates are uniquely prepared to make significant impacts on all sectors of society thanks to the valuable lessons learned during their time in these Enchanted Mountains. They are exceptional representatives of St. Bonaventure and I am honored to serve as their Athletic Director."
