GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure golfers past and present turned in strong showings this week at the 103rd New York State Men's Amateur Championship held at Glens Falls Country Club.
Four players with Bonnies ties finished in the top 20 of the field, led by alumnus Christian Chapman, '21, '22. Chapman, one of the top players in Bonnies program history, made a run at the title before settling for third overall following Thursday's final day of competition including 36 holes.
Chapman rose to the top of the leaderboard following sparkling rounds of 65 and 69 in the first two days. He closed the tournament on Thursday with 71 and 74 to wrap up the week 5-under par and five back of champion Matthew Lowe. Chapman graduated with Bona's career scoring record (73.08) and set a new single-season scoring record of 72.69 along with a Bona record 94 birdies during his grad season of 2021-22.
Two of Bona's current roster members also had shining moments in the tournament.
Rising sophomore Colin Barber finished in a tie for 12th on the leaderboard. He began the week in red figures with an opening round 69, followed by scores of 72-73-76 as he carded 6-over for the tournament.
Likewise, rising senior Vinny Liguori impressed with an opening round 69 to put himself in contention. After a second round 77, he bounced back on Thursday with a third round 74 followed by a strong even-par 71 to tie for 16th, one shot back of his Bonnies teammate.
Bonnies grad Jack Angelucci, '23, also not only made the cut but put himself into position to contend at the top of the leaderboard. He was among the leaders entering the final day following back-to-back 1-under 70 days to begin the tourney. On the final day, he posted 78 in the third round but responded with a final round 74 to tie for 18th.
