St. Bonaventure

RICHMOND, Va. – Despite grabbing early momentum with a first half score, the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team was unable to seal the deal on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 on the road against Richmond, as the hosts scored the winner in the 89th minute.
 
The Bonnies (3-6-1, 0-3) started off the contest in strong fashion, turning away multiple opportunities which looked promising for the Spiders (6-0-5, 1-0-2).
 
Bona's first stop came in the third minute as a shot from Richmond's Morganne Zinn knocked off the crossbar and into the box where freshman Moran Moscovici was waiting for a timely clear. As the hosts regained possession and fired a second shot on net, senior goalkeeper Juliana Castellano made a low save to end the danger.
 
Following that scare, the Bonnies wasted little time before getting on the board in the 10th minute.
 
As sophomore Ava Reybitz collected a pass in the midfield area from Addison Brown, she turned and found a teammate, redshirt junior Audrey Cadman, streaking downfield. The William & Mary transfer then played a pristine ball to Cadman, who collected the feed in stride and finished low through the opposite corner for her third goal of the season.
 
The visitors carried that momentum and advantage to the halftime break as Castellano recorded another pair of saves to keep the Spiders scoreless, though the hosts would eventually gain control and break through in the second stanza.
 
Zinn knotted things up in the 61st minute after a teammate's soaring pass deflected off a Bona defender, setting her up with an open lane to score. After capitalizing on that opportunity, the Spiders nearly took the lead just a few minutes later, finding the back of the net following some chaos in the box. To the hosts' dismay, that score was overturned following a replay review for an offsides judgment, keeping the game knotted at one goal a piece for the time being.
 
Although Richmond's score was taken off the board, the team continued to control pace and possession, peppering Castellano with shots on goal throughout the remainder of the half. The hosts' efforts finally paid off at the last moment as Paige West delivered the final blow, finding paydirt in the 89th minute for the game-winner.
 
The Spiders were then able to secure the winning result, draining the rest of a second half which saw them take 12 shots to Bona's one.
 
Castellano made her fourth start of the year in net and recorded a season-high eight saves in the contest.
