Nick Schmidt joined the St. Bonaventure men's basketball coaching staff in June 2025 and is in his first season in a full-time role with the program after previously serving as a graduate assistant.

Most recently, Schmidt served on staff at Bryant where he helped the Bulldogs to 23 victories and America East regular season and championship titles on the way to the NCAA Tournament. Schmidt was on a staff that guided Bryant to a 14-2 mark in America East play while ranking 21st nationally in scoring offense at nearly 82 points per game.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant on the Bonnies staff and then moved to the staff of Catholic University in 2020-21. He then went to Putnam Science Academy in 2021, serving as head coach of the varsity team and an assistant with the prep squad where he helped PSA to a national championship in 2022.

He played collegiately at Alfred University, averaging 7.5 points per game during his career including a senior season of 2017-18 where he poured in 13.1 ppg and drained 77 3-pointers. Following the year, he was selected to the All-Empire 8 Second Team for his efforts.

In high school, he helped Olean High to three Section VI championships including runs to the Class B Final Four in the 2012 and 2014 seasons. He scored over 1,000 points with the Huskies and set school records for free throw percentage and three-pointers made in a year.

He has had the lifelong tutelage of his father, Bonnies head coach Mark Schmidt, as his new boss has spent 18 seasons at the helm of the Bonnies with more than 400 career victories in his two decades as a head coach.
