Zinnicker, Pellegrini lead baseball over Holy Cross, 3-1

BRADENTON, Fla. - Sophomore John Zinnicker pitched seven strong innings to lead St. Bonaventure to a 3-1 win over Holy Cross on Thursday evening at Manatee (Fla.) Community College.

Zinnicker, a southpaw from Painesville, Ohio, allowed just two hits and one unearned run over his seven innings of work to record his first collegiate victory. He struck out four and walked four. Zinnicker threw only 4-2/3 innings in 2003.

Freshman outfielder Brian Pellegrini also starred. He hit his first career home run, a solo shot, and then pitched two perfect innings in relief of Zinnicker to record a save.

Senior shortstop Eric Wilson, who went 1-2 with a double, and junior catcher Damian Blakeley, who went 1-4, also recorded RBIs. Sophomore left fielder Dan Bratys finished 2-4 with a stolen base.

The Bonnies improved to 2-3. Holy Cross is also 2-3.

St. Bonaventure will return to action on Friday against Northern Illinois at 2:30. The Bonnies have three games remaining on their eight-game Florida trip.
