BUFFALO, N.Y. -
After falling to Canisius 5-2 in the opener, the St. Bonaventure softball team never got a chance to redeem itself as game two was called due to rain on Wednesday afternoon at Demske Sports Complex.
The Golden Griffins took control at both the plate and on the mound to begin the game.
Canisius pitcher Courtney Piar retired the first 11 Bona batters until senior Kristin Brunetto ended the no-hitter with a two-out single in the fourth.
While Piar controlled the Bonnies at the dish, the Griffs plated three runs in the second and two in the third to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
St. Bonaventure pushed across its only two runs in the top of the sixth to make it 5-2. Sophomore Brianna Bricker's sacrifice fly to right field scored pinch-runner Blair Freeman for the first run. One batter later, senior Joelle Brunetto slapped an RBI-single to plate sophomore Andrea Swanger for the games final run.
Junior Christine Keleher went all six innings in the circle. She allowed five earned runs on five hits and struck out five.
The Bonnies' record now stands at 10-12 on the season, while Canisius improves 17-11 overall.
St. Bonaventure will jump back into action this weekend with a pair of Atlantic 10 road doubleheaders. The Bonnies will take on La Salle on Friday and Fordham on Saturday. The opener in Philadelphia, Pa. is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. and will be followed by a 3:30 p.m. start for game two.
