11-0! Bonnies blast Niagara for best start in school history

April 14, 2006

Final Stats

ST. BONAVENTURE - Rain wasn't the only thing falling Friday afternoon during the women's lacrosse game.

The Bona record books took a major hit as St. Bonaventure improved to 11-0 - the best start in program history - with an easy 24-7 win over Niagara at McGraw-Jennings Field.

The win extends the nation's longest winning streak to 12 as the Bonnies remain the only unbeaten team in Division 1. Head coach Tony Zostant earned his 50th career win at the helm. In just five short seasons at Bonaventure, Zostant has compiled a 50-27 record.

St. Bonaventure's 24 goals surpassed the school record of 22 set in 2003 against Binghamton. Freshman Katelyn Faas had a hand in 10 of those scores, including a career-high eight goals. Her 10 points sets a school record for points in a game and her eight goals tied the mark set by Tracy Domm in 2002 for goals in a game.

The brown and white scored the games first six goals and the last four scores of the first half to take a 15-4 lead into the break.

St. Bonaventure held a 48-23 advantage in shots and a 20-13 edge in draw controls.

Sophomore Kimberly Ross finished with seven points on four goals and three assists. Junior Katie Hurley and sophomore Brenna Houghton each notched six points on the afternoon. Hurley scored five goals, while Houghton dished out five helpers. Senior Sarah Dressler tallied her second hat trick of the season, while classmate Nicole Motondo finished with two goals and one assist.

Juniors Courtney Hastrich and Eileen Gagnon each saw time in the cage. Hastrich got the nod in net, stopping four saves en route to the win. Gagnon made eight saves in the second half.

St. Bonaventure will welcome nationally ranked Richmond to McGraw-Jennings Field on Easter Sunday for an 11 a.m. start. The No. 9 Spiders have won 10-straight games heading into their 4 p.m. tilt with Duquesne this afternoon.
