Final Stats
CHARLESTON, S.C. -
The St. Bonaventure softball team dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Charleston Southern Invite to finish in fifth place with a tournament record of 2-4.
The Bonnies fell 3-1 to Brown in their first game of the day and suffered a 2-0 loss to Providence in the afternoon.
Bowling Green, who defeated St. Bonaventure 2-0 on Saturday, finished the round robin tournament in first place with an overall record of 5-1. Providence, Campbell and Brown and finished at 4-2 for second, third and fourth, respectively, with run differential being the tie-breaker. Host Charleston Southern placed sixth and Hartford seventh.
In the opener, Brown plated all three of its runs off senior Christine Keleher in its half of the fourth. The Bears did all their damage with two outs as Keleher walked in the first run followed by a two-run single to make it 3-0.
Sophomore Kathryn Pazda came around to score the Bonnies lone run of the day in the fifth. Pazda reached on bunt single and advanced to second on a pass ball. After moving to third on a groundout, junior Brianna Bricker brought home Pazda with an RBI single.
Other than the fourth inning, Keleher was in complete control on the mound. She allowed just four hits and struck out five as she fell to 1-1 on the season.
Freshman Sherri Thompson took the hill in game two for the Bonnies and like Keleher, ran into trouble in the fourth inning.
Providence took a 2-0 lead in the fourth as it led off the inning with four-straight singles.
Thompson allowed just two hits the rest of the game, but unfortunately, was the tough-luck loser as she didn't receive any run support from the Bona bats. The loss drops Thompson to 1-3 on the season as she struck out six and gave up one walk.
Pazda and freshman Stephanie each went 2-for-4 at the plate, while junior Kirstin Strong recorded a double.
Pazda was named to the All-Tournament team after splitting time in left and center field this weekend. The Clarence, N.Y. native batted .417 (5-12) over five games played.
Despite the tournament being over, St. Bonaventure will stay in Charleston to play four more games over the next three days. The Bonnies will get a much needed day off on Monday and return to the diamond on Tuesday to take on Campbell at noon and Charleston Southern at 2 p.m.
