ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -
Less than 48 hours removed from her first career shutout, freshman pitcher Sherri Thompson was at it again on Saturday afternoon.
Thompson helped the Bonnies pick up the pieces in game two against Fordham with a five-hit shutout, leading St. Bonaventure to a 1-0 win and a much-need Atlantic 10 split.
The Rams (32-15, 12-2) took the opener 8-0 behind a complete game three-hitter from senior Sarah Kinney.
The shutout is the second in a row for Thompson, who now has a 16-inning scoreless streak. With the win, she improves to 4-7 on the season and lowers her already league-best ERA to 1.22.
The Bona bats struggled most of the day until junior Kirstin Strong laced the game-winning RBI triple down the right field line, scoring freshman Stephanie Narde for the game's first run.
Fordham made things interesting in the top of the seventh with two runners on base and one out .Thompson then got Fisher to lineout to Brianna Bricker at third, who then fired a strike to Narde to double-up the runner and end the game.
The Bonnies finished with seven hits on the afternoon, three of which came off the bat of Bricker.
Senior Christine Keleher got the nod on the mound in game one, but lasted just three innings before giving way to Bricker. Keleher allowed seven runs, four earned, on eight hits.
St. Bonaventure will return to McGraw-Jennings Field tomorrow when its hosts La Salle. Game one will start at noon.
