RICHMOND, VA. -
The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team suffered its first Atlantic 10 loss of the season at Richmond, 17-8, on Friday afternoon at First Market Stadium.
The Spiders dominated play on both ends of the field, yielding just 16 shots to the Bona attack while it pelted junior goalie Eboni Preston with 46 shots. Richmond also owned a 21-6 edge in draw controls.
The loss snaps the Bonnies' seven-game win streak and moves them into a three-way tie for first place with the Spiders (11-5, 5-1) and George Washington (9-6, 5-1). Richmond owns the tie-breaker over both teams and with a win on Sunday against Duquesne can clinch the No. 1 seed in the A-10 Tournament and a share of the regular season title.
St. Bonaventure will head to the nation's capital on Sunday for a 12 p.m. showdown against the Colonials. The winner will get at least a share of the A-10 crown, while the loser of the game will be the No. 3 seed in next week's A-10 Tournament.
With the score tied 2-2, Richmond closed the first half on a 7-0 run over the final 14:15 to take a commanding 9-2 lead into the locker room.
Junior Kimberly Ross notched two of the first three goals of the second half, but momentum quickly switched back over to the Spider sideline as they responded with five of the next six goals for a 15-5 lead.
Despite the loss, Preston turned in a solid performance in cage. The New Windsor, Md. native made 14 stops to extend her double-digit saves streak to eight games.
Ross, junior Stephanie Jordan and sophomore Katelyn Faas all finished with two goals apiece. Sophomore Keri Vito and freshman Amanda Martin accounted for the other two goals.
