Box Score
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -
St. Bonaventure managed only three hits as they lost to Saint Joseph's 1-0 on Friday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.
The Bonnies are now 4-8 in Atlantic 10 action and 16-17 overall, as they continue to battle to make it into next week's A-10 Tournament. The Hawks improve to 5-11 in the conference and 13-23 on the year.
St. Bonaventure's bats were kept off balance by Hawks' starter Lauren Cognigni. She faced two over the minimum while striking out six in the complete-game shutout, improving to 7-11.
Senior Christine Keleher allowed four hits and four walks for the Bonnies in the complete-game loss, falling victim to an unearned run to drop her record to 9-8.
The Hawks scored the game's lone run in the sixth. Kelsey Moir walked with one out and then attempted to steal second. The Bonnies were unable to retire Moir in a rundown, as she took second on an error. The next batter, Susan Lebow, lined a double to the left field wall, scoring Moir to make it 1-0 Saint Joseph's.
The Bonnies best threat to score came in the third inning, when sophomore Amanda Kotz and junior Brianna Bricker hit back-to-back singles with two out.
That would be the last base runner Cognigni would allow, as she retired the last 13 Bonnies to face her.
Amanda Kotz, Bricker, and freshman Stephanie Narde collected St. Bonaventure's hits on the day.
The two teams will conclude their two-game series on Saturday at noon.
