CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team came up empty on their weekend road trip as they lost their second game to Charlotte, a 4-0 defeat Sunday afternoon at Transamerica Field.
The Bonnies dropped the other game of their weekend road trip on Friday night, losing by an identical 4-0 margin to Saint Louis University. With today's loss at Charlotte the Brown and White's record drops to 4-6-4 overall and 2-4-1 in conference, while the 49ers record improves to 12-4-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the A-10.
Charlotte came out as the aggressors early firing the first four shots of the game at Bonnie keeper David Flynn who was up to the task making three early saves.
However, on the fifth shot of the game taken by Charlotte they managed to get one by Flynn. In the 13th minute, senior Chris Salvaggione received a touch pass from sophomore Andres Cuero and fired a shot that deflected off the post and in the goal to give the 49ers a 1-0 lead.
The Bonnies only shot on goal in the first half was a shot by sophomore Brett Allen in the 21st minute that was corralled by Charlotte keeper David Martin keeping the score 1-0 Charlotte going into halftime.
The 49ers added three more insurance goals in the second half to put the game out of reach. In the 54th minute, 49er freshman Isaac Caughran received a pass from Cuero and slid it by an out of position Flynn to give Charlotte a 2-0 lead. Goals by seniors Kent Long and Chris Salvaggione, his second of the game, capped the scoring for the afternoon putting Charlotte ahead 4-0.
For the Bonnies, sophomore Fabrizio Savarino had a shot on goal while Flynn notched eight saves in goal for the game.
The Brown and White are in action next on Friday, November 7 when they hit the road again to take on Richmond. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at First Market Stadium.
