The St. Bonaventure women's soccer team saw its program record
four-game Atlantic 10 win streak come to an end on Sunday as it
dropped a 1-0 decision to Saint Joseph's at Finnesey Field.
The conference loss is the first of the season for the Bonnies,
who fall to 4-1 in the A-10 and 7-7 overall. The Hawks improve to
3-2-1 in the A-10 after their second win of the weekend.
"Saint Joseph's played well and worked really hard," said head
coach Manoj Khettry. "It was really tough for us to adapt to the
speed and the bounce of the field turf, but we still had some
really good chances that we couldn't connect on and they did. We'll
have to find a way to bounce back next weekend against Daytona and
Xavier."
Saint Joseph's controlled the game from start to finish,
building a commanding 21-4 shot advantage and an 8-2 edge in corner
kicks.
The lone goal of the game came in the 22nd minute when Jen
Pfeiffer headed home the eventual game-winning goal into the right
side of the net.
Sophomore keeper Nicole Markert kept the Brown and White in the
game on numerous occasions and finished with a career-high 11
saves. During her 11-save performance, Markert stopped the 200th
shot of her career.
St. Bonaventure will back in action on Friday, Oct. 16 when it
welcomes Dayton to McGraw-Jennings Field. The game will be part of
a doubleheader with the men's team and will begin at noon.
