Junior Courtney Bosse's goal in the 89th minute of regulation
broke a 1-1 tie and kept the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team
unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play as it defeated Temple, 2-1, on Friday
afternoon at Ambler Soccer Complex.
Bosse's team-high sixth goal of the season was her third in
conference play. Oddly enough, all three of those goals have been
game-winners for the Bonnies as they are off to their A-10 start in
program history at 4-0.
"It's good to get another conference road win against a really
hard working and competitive Temple team, but we should have been
sharper in the second half especially after playing as well as we
did in the first half," said head coach Manoj Khettry. "Even though
we are 4-0, we have a long way to go before we can be considered an
elite team in the conference. We have to play with more urgency and
at a higher level if we want to be better."
The four-game A-10 win streak is the longest in program history,
as St. Bonaventure now stands at 7-6 overall on the year. The
Bonnies have taken three straight meetings from the Owls (4-8-1,
0-5).
For the fourth straight game, the Brown and White got on the
board first. Freshman Nicole Rosso picked up the second point of
her collegiate point as she found sophomore Tori Burchett for the
opening goal in the 24th minute. The goal is Burchett's fourth of
the season.
The Bonnies took the 1-0 lead into the break, marking the
seventh straight half they kept their opponent off the scoreboard.
St. Bonaventure held a commanding 7-2 shot advantage over the
opening 45 minutes and had the only two corner kicks.
Temple ended the Bona shutout streak at 351 minutes and seven
seconds when Allicia Yurkovic knotted the score at 1-1 off an
assist from Niki Conn at the 75:10 mark.
With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, sophomore
Janelle Taylor started the game-winning score by finding classmate
Dakota Carroll. A native of nearby Drexel Hill, Pa., Carroll then
found Bosse in the center of the field for the eventual
game-winner.
The goal gives Bosse a total of four game-winners this season,
putting her in a tie for first place in the A-10. Taylor's assist
on the game-winning was her team-high fifth of the year.
St. Bonaventure will closeout its weekend in Philadelphia on
Sunday when it takes on Saint Joseph's. Kick-off is slated for 1
p.m.
