Box Score

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A three-run home run by senior Brooke Panepinto in the fifth inning broke a tie game and gave Robert Morris a 5-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex.

The Bonnies were scheduled to play a doubleheader against the Colonials, but the second game of the day was called off due to steady rain.

With the defeat, the Brown and White fall to 2-14 overall and 0-2 in A-10 play. Robert Morris, with the win, gets back to .500 on the season with an even 11-11 record.

Freshman Erin Nargi was on the bump for the Brown and White, but only managed to get through three innings of work before being lifted. Nargi allowed four runs on the day, all earned, on four hits while striking out two in taking the loss.

Robert Morris would get on the board first, when Panepinto crushed her first home run of the afternoon off Nargi to make the score 1-0 Colonials.

St. Bonaventure would come right back in the very next frame, when senior Ashley Kotz would crank the Bonnies first round-tripper of the season to tie the game up at 1-1.

The two teams would trade runs in their next at-bats to make the game 2-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. Robert Morris would come up to the plate and seal the deal thanks to another Panepinto long ball. The Belle Vernon, Pa., product would step up to the dish with one out and two runners on first and second and drill another home run, this time of the three-run variety, to give the Colonials a 5-2 advantage.

St. Bonaventure would not be able generate another quality scoring opportunity, managing only two singles the rest of the way.

Leading the Bonnies offensively was Ashley Kotz, who went 2-for-4 on the day with her homerun and a single as well. Sophomore Maureen Wells also had a multi-hit game, slapping out two singles in the contest.

Robert Morris starter Alexa Bryson went the distance against the Bonnies, allowing nine hits in the game while fanning nine for the win.

St. Bonaventure will be back in action on Friday, March 27, when it travels to Amherst, Mass. to take on UMass. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
