Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Freshman Melissa Schweitzer scored the game-winning goal with just 3:55 left in regulation, and added an insurance goal soon after, to give Temple a 14-12 Atlantic 10 victory over the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team on Friday afternoon at Geasey Field.

The loss is the Brown and White's second straight defeat, as they fall to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in A-10 play. Temple, with the win, moves its record up to 3-11 overall and 2-4 in conference.

Junior Molly Hastrich once again led the way for St. Bonaventure on the offensive end, with five points on four goals and an assist. Hastrich has scored at least four goals in a game nine times this season, including her last four contests. With her four goals in today's loss, Hastrich set the St. Bonaventure program record for the most goals scored in a single season, with 58. The Horseheads, N.Y., native also moved into second place for the most points, with 71, recorded in a single season in program history. Hastrich only needs one more goal or assists in the Bonnies last game of the season, on Sunday, to pass Kelly Chavez for the most points in a season all-time.

Sophomore Christine Hanley also played well for St. Bonaventure, tallying four points on two goals and two assists in the game.

Getting the start in net for the Bonnies was junior Tori Waheibi. Waheibi played the entire game allowing all 14 goals, while making 11 saves, to take the loss.

Temple forced St. Bonaventure into 23 turnovers, the second most committed by the team all season, while winning the draw control battle over the Bonnies 17-11. The other glaring statistic in the game was that the Owls attempted 14 free-position shots, while the Brown and White were awarded just three free-position shots on the day.

St. Bonaventure scored the first three goals of the contest, the last of which coming from Hanley, to make the score 3-0 with 17:17 to go in the first half.

Temple would hang around for the rest of the period, getting a score from freshman Karly Cohen with just seven seconds left in the half to make the score 7-6 Bonnies going into intermission.

Hastrich would score back-to-back goals to put the Brown and White up 11-7 with just 13:43 left in the second stanza.

The Owls would rally from that point forward scoring seven of the games next eight goals, including the final four tallies. Cohen would tie the game up at 12-12 with 4:26 to go in the game and Schweitzer would score the game-winner not even a minute later to secure the victory.

Cohen led Temple with five points, on four goals and one assist. Schweitzer had a good game offensively as well for the Owls scoring three goals in the win.

Junior Jessica Colucci played the entire game between the pipes for the Owls, allowing 12 goals while making eight saves to earn the win.

The Brown and White will wrap up their season on Sunday, April 19 when they welcome UMass to McGraw Jennings Field for Senior Day. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 pm and can be followed through Game Tracker on www.GOBONNIES.com.
