ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team failed to hold a big second half lead as it fell to Massachusetts 14-13, in the final minute of play, on Sunday afternoon at McGraw Jennings Field.

The loss ends the Brown and White's season with an overall record of 7-10 overall and 1-6 in A-10 play. UMass, with the win, moves its record up to 9-7 overall and 6-1 in conference play, as they head into Atlantic 10 Tournament play next week as the number one seed.

Junior Molly Hastrich once again led the way for St. Bonaventure on the offensive end, with six points on four goals and two assists. Hastrich ends her junior campaign with the most goals (62) scored and the most points (77) accumulated in a single season in St. Bonaventure program history.

Freshman Danielle Drabin also provided the Bonnies with a spark on the offensive end, netting three goals in a game for the fifth time this season.

Getting the start in net for the Bonnies was junior Tori Waheibi. Waheibi played the entire game allowing all 14 goals, while making 11 saves, to take the loss.

Two key statistics that the Brown and White failed to keep up with Massachusetts in were shots and draw controls. The Minutewomen out-shot the Bonnies 37-23 for the game, and collected 19 draw controls compared to St. Bonaventure's eight.

St. Bonaventure, not UMass, looked like the team fighting for the number one seed in next week's Atlantic 10 Tournament at the start of the game. The Bonnies got a big left from Drabin, who scored all three of her goals in the first stanza, and Hastrich in the first half. Hastrich scored the final tally of the half, with 2:13 left, to put St. Bonaventure up 7-4 going into intermission.

A goal by freshman Emily Kane would seem to put the Brown and White in the driver's seat, up 11-5, with only 20:58 left in the second half. UMass would have other ideas, scoring the game's next four goals to make the score 11-8 St. Bonaventure with 16:08 left in the game.

Hastrich would try to put a stop to the UMass rally with her fourth goal of the game, making the score 12-8 Bonnies with only 14:49 remaining in the game.

The Minutewomen would not be stopped however, scoring five of the game's next six goals to tie the game up at 13-13 with 4:11 to go in the second half. Junior Stephanie Hopkins would complete the UMass comeback firing a shot over the shoulder of Wahiebi to put UMass ahead for good at 14-13.

Brigandi led UMass offensively with five points, on four goals and one assist. Hopkins was right behind her tallying four points, on two goals and two assists, in the win.

Freshman goalkeeper Katie Florence played the entire game between the pipes for the Minutewomen, allowing 13 goals while making six saves to preserve the victory.
