Box Score
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -
The St. Bonaventure softball team was unable to generate any scoring opportunities as it fell to Saint Joseph's 4-0 on Friday afternoon at McGraw Jennings Field.
With the defeat, the Brown and White fall to 10-25 overall and 7-10 in A-10 play. Saint Joseph's, with the win, improves its record up to 22-18 overall and 8-7 in league play.
The Bonnies failed to put anything together against Hawks starter Dani Gonzales. Gonzales pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits while striking out five.
Saint Joseph's got on the board first in the second inning against St. Bonaventure starter Sherri Thompson. Gonzales stepped up and took her counterpart out of the yard, depositing a pitch over the left field fence to make the score 1-0 Hawks.
The visitors struck again in both the fourth and fifth innings off Thompson for some insurance. Senior Erika Rosenwinkel clubbed an RBI double off Thompson on the fourth to make the score 2-0. Freshman Monica Aguilar and junior Brooke Darreff made the score 4-0 with an RBI double and single, respectively, to put the game out of reach.
The Brown and White's best scoring chance came in the bottom of the fourth. Freshman Brooke Frey started the frame with a walk. After back-to-back outs senior Ashley Kotz singled to right field to put runners on first and second with two outs. Senior Amanda Kotz stepped up next but could not deliver the big hit, lining out to shortstop to end the threat.
Thompson went six innings for the home team, allowing all four runs on seven hits. Freshman Erin Nargi came on in relief and pitched a perfect seventh inning.
All four of the Bonnies hits were singles. Kotz, senior Kathryn Pazda, senior Andrea Swanger and sophomore Amber Webb-Fife each collected a hit in a losing effort.
St. Bonaventure will be back in action on Saturday, May 2, at 12:00 pm when it wraps up its two-game series against Saint Joseph's. The game will also be senior day for the Brown and White as they honor the six seniors on this year's squad.
