RICHMOND, Va. — St. Bonaventure's Chelsea Smetzer tallied her second goal of the season to knot the score at one but Richmond's Becca Wann answered with the game-winner nine minutes into the second half to defeat the Bonnies 2-1 Sunday in the regular-season finale for both teams.  

Despite the loss, St. Bonaventure (11-8-0, 5-4-0 A-10) earned its third consecutive selection into the Atlantic 10 Championship under fifth-year head coach Manoj Khettry. Championships seeds and parings will be announced Monday.

"I'm looking forward to whomever we play and I'm proud that we've managed to qualify these past three years. It's a testament to our players, in particular this senior class, who have really left their mark on this program. I hope they have a few more wins within them and while it's disappointing to lose our last regular season game, we all have a lot to be proud of." he said.

Spiders' junior forward Emily Dale put Richmond on the board in the 25th minute on a shot that glanced off the post. Smetzer's goal came just before the halftime break after the Ashland, Ohio native made a move at the top of the box and buried a shot inside the left post. Sarah Clark and Nicole Rosso were each credited with an assist.

Wann's eventual-game winner snaps a three-match win streak for the Bonnies, who end the regular season just one win shy of a school-record 12 wins set by the 1990 squad.

NOTES: St. Bonaventure authored two streaks of at least four wins this season … the team won five in a row from Sept. 5 to Sept. 19 … In road games this season, the Bonnies are just 3-7 … last season SBU tied for third in the standings and received the fourth seed in the Championship.
