ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The
Bonnies' 11-goal second half propelled St. Bonaventure
women's lacrosse to a 14-8 victory against the visiting Siena
Saints on a sunny Sunday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.
The Bonnies improve to 3-4 on the season while Siena drops to
4-3.
Sophomore Samantha Cavallaro paced the Bonnies
with four goals, netting three in the second half. Senior captain
Molly Hastrich added to the second half goal
total, scoring her three in the last 12 minutes of the half.
Six other Bonnies tossed in a goal including two from sophomore
Danielle Drabin. Senior captain Tori
Waheibi picked up back-to-back wins, making 13 saves in
the net.
The first half started slow with a 1-1 score until the 10 minute
mark of the first half before Siena took a 2-1 advantage. The
Bonnies did not back down going on a 5-0 run from the end of the
first to 28:34 of the second frame. Cavallaro scored at 29:27
before Drabin hit her back-to-back goals within 16 seconds of each
other to give the Bonnies a 6-2 lead.
Kristin McMillian netted a goal to break the Bonnies'
tear, but St. Bonaventure answered with three consecutive goals
including freshman Tiffany Raskopf's first
goal of the season to give the Bonnies a 9-3
lead.
The teams traded goals over the next nine minutes before the
Brown and White pushed their lead to as many as seven, 13-6 with
less than four minutes to play.
Siena's Caitlin Mikel scored two of her total four goals
within the last three minutes of the game, but the Saints could not
overcome the deficit.
The teams matched evenly on the stat sheet with St. Bonaventure
holding a slight edge in draw controls, 13-10, and ground balls,
14-12. The shots were even as both teams attempted 32.
Mikel led the way for the Saints, picking up three goals while
Allie Kain and McMillan grabbed two apiece.
The Bonnies stay as they host Bucknell on Tuesday. Game
time at McGraw-Jennings Field is set for 4 p.m.
