PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A late second
half rally pushed La Salle past St. Bonaventure women's
lacrosse, 16-9, in the Bonnies' Atlantic 10 opener at McCarthy
Stadium on a windy and cold Friday night.
The loss drops the Bonnies below .500 as they move to 4-5 on the
season while the Explorers improve to 5-4 on the year.
Junior Christine Hanley led the Brown and White
with three goals while senior captain and reigning A-10 Player of
the Week Molly Hastrich scored two goals.
Hastrich has scored multiple goals in all nine games while Hanley
missed just one contest without multiple goals. Sophomores
Daisy Timlin, Danielle Drabin and
Samantha Cavallaro also added goals.
La Salle held the lead through the entire time as the Bonnies
only tied it up at 1-1 on Hanley's first goal at 27:13 and
Hastrich's first goal, 2-2, with 23:28 left to play in the
first. The Explorers then went on a 4-0 run to lead 6-2 at
11:59.
The Bonnies came within two, 7-5 with a minute remaining in the
first on Hastrich's second goal of the game, but that was as
close as St. Bonaventure would strike throughout the remainder of
the game.
La Salle opened the second half on a 7-1 run to secure its first
conference win. The Bonnies scored three unanswered goals to
end the half, but it was too late as the Explorers already held a
10-goal lead with less than five minutes to play.
The Explorers were led by senior Jill Davis and reigning A-10
Rookie of the Week Lauren McDermott, who scored five goals apiece
in the victory.
St. Bonaventure continues conference play as it travels across
Philadelphia to Saint Joseph's to take on the Hawks on Sunday
at noon.
