PHILADELPHIA, Pa.  – Despite a late second half rally by Saint Joseph's, the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team was able to hold onto the lead and win its first conference game of the season, 13-12 over the Hawks on a cold Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field.

The win evens the Bonnies' record at 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play while Saint Joseph's falls to 2-9 on the season and 0-2 in the early part of conference play.

Once again junior Christine Hanley led the Brown and White in scoring, but was joined this time by senior captain Molly Hastrich.  Each attacker scored four goals to pace the Bonnies while sophomores Danielle Drabin and Samantha Cavallaro added two goals apiece.  Sophomore Elizabeth Demara also netted a goal.

Senior Tori Waheibi picked up the win with 10 saves on 29 shots and three ground balls. Saint Joseph's Kaitlin Labarera made seven saves on the Bonnies' 23 shots.

Saint Joseph's held the edge in ground balls 24-12 while St. Bonaventure topped the Hawks 16-11 in draw controls.  Hastrich tallied a game-high five draw controls

After a scoreless opening six minutes, the Bonnies jumped on the board with back-to-back goals to lead 2-0 by 23:06. Demara took a pass from Drabin to open the scoring and just 35 seconds later, Cavallaro found Hastrich for the second goal.

The Hawks answered back with two consecutive goals of their own to knot the score 2-2 at 20:59.  St. Bonaventure jumped ahead with Cavallaro's first goal of the game before the Hawks took a 5-3 lead with less than 15 minutes remaining in the half.

The would be the Hawks last lead of the game as the Bonnies answered back with a 8-0 run that extended to the second half to lead 11-5 at the 23:44 mark and give St. Bonaventure its largest lead of the game. Hastrich started the tear with 9:01 left in the first while Drabin finished it with back-to-back scores.

Hanley sandwiched two of her goals between three Hawks' goals to hold the Bonnies' lead at five, 13-8, with 11:02 left to play.  Despite a late four-goal rally by Saint Joseph's, St. Bonaventure buckled down to hold the Hawks scoreless over the last two minutes and 50 seconds to keep the win.

The duo of Grace Dinn and Jen Peters led the Hawks with four and three goals, respectively.  Dinn scored three of her goals during the 4-0 run to end the game while Peters accounted for the fourth goal of the stretch.

The Bonnies travel to Pittsburgh on Thursday to continue conference play at Duquesne. Game time at Rooney Field is set for 4 p.m.  The Dukes also went 1-1 in their opening weekend of conference play just like the Bonnies - falling to La Salle and beating Saint Joseph's.
