PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Behind a
seven-goal game from senior captain Molly
Hastrich, the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team
held strong to beat Duquesne 18-14 on a sunny Thursday afternoon.
The Bonnies are now on a two-game streak in conference play and
are now 2-1 in conference play and 6-5 on the season.
Hastrich paced the Bonnies with seven goals while sophomore
Danielle Drabin and junior Christine
Hanley each tallied three each.
The Dukes started off strong with a 4-2 lead in the first five
minutes of the contest. Casey Dank and Cailin Colegrove scored two
goals in less than two minutes to put the Dukes up 6-2 at the 13:16
mark.
St. Bonaventure opened up a 7-0 run to take a 9-6 lead into
halftime. Sophomore Elizabeth Demara and
freshman Tiffany Raskopf scored two goals within
38 seconds of each other before Hastrich netted back-to-back goals
to tie it at 6-6 with less than four minutes in the first.
Consecutive goals from Drabin and a security goal from
Kristi Tamasitis ended the half.
Duquesne's Rekart and Frederick once again delivered for
the Dukes with a combined three goals in three minutes of action,
bringing the Dukes back within one at 14-13 with 12:46 left in the
second.
The Brown and White pulled ahead by four goals twice in the
second half before three goals gave St. Bonaventure the final go
ahead for the game as the Bonnies held Duquesne scoreless for 10
minutes and 33 seconds through the end of the second.
The Bonnies take a short break before heading to Niagara
University to make up the game originally scheduled for February
28. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
