AMHERST, Mass.  – A three-goal lead at halftime is all the Massachusetts needed to drop St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse 11-6 on a sunny Sunday afternoon at McGuirk Stadium.

The Bonnies even their record at 7-7 and 2-3 in Atlantic 10 play while UMass moves to 7-7 and 4-1 in conference action.  St. Bonaventure has two more conference game to see if it will make it to the A-10 Championship.

The Minutewomen held an edge in every statistical category, for the game, UMass outshot St. Bonaventure 29-to-16 and held a 12-to-6 advantage in draw controls. Senior Tori Waheibi picked up 13 saves in the loss. 

St. Bonaventure jumped on the scoreboard first with sophomore Danielle Drabin's lone goal of the game at 27:04, but it would be the last goal the Bonnies would net until the second half. UMass scored four goals including back-to-back goals by Jackie Lyons starting at 18:45 and held a 4-1 lead at the half.

The Bonnies finally found the back of the net again less than two minutes in second frame when Elizabeth Demara shot a quick pass past UMass keeper Katie Florence.

UMass scored two consecutive goals and the Bonnies matched with two goals of their own to close the gap 6-4 with 19:35 left to play.  Junior Christine Hanley scored on a free position shot at 22:40 while sophomore Samantha Cavallaro added her goal at 19:35.

The Minutewomen scored three straight in a span of 71 seconds to push the lead up to five, 9-4, with 17:08 remaining.

The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the game as the UMass defense prevented the Bonnies from closing the gap any further.

Pelletier paced the Minutewomen with four goals while Lyons added three of her own. Florence picked up the win making seven saves.

The Bonnies return home for a two-game home stand to wrap up conference play.  St. Bonaventure hosts George Washington on Friday at 3 p.m. and the Richmond Spiders on Sunday at noon for Senior Day.
