Strong second half pushes Temple past Bonnies

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y.  – Despite leading at the half, the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team could not overcome Temple's endurance as the Bonnies dropped their first home game of the season 12-8 on a cold, windy afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field.

With the loss, the Bonnies fall to 7-6 on the season and 2-2 in Atlantic 10 play as they prepare for perennial power Massachusetts on Sunday.  Game time in Amherst, Mass., is set for noon.  Temple improves to 5-6 and also 2-2 in conference action.

Senior Molly Hastrich and sophomore Danielle Drabin led the Brown and White with three goals each while sophomore Samantha Cavallaro added two of her own.  Junior Christine Hanley dished out three assists while Drabin and Hastrich each had one.

The Bonnies held a 13-8 advantage in draw controls, but were plagued by turnovers with 20 compared to the Owls' 16.  Temple also converted 4-of-7 on free-position shots compared to St. Bonaventure's 1-of-6. Temple held the edge in shots 29-22 while the teams evened on ground balls 15-all.

St. Bonaventure jumped on the board first as Hanley used her free-position attempt to find Drabin who found the back of the net at 28:29.  Temple answered back on a Stephanie Markunas was successful on a free-position shot to tie it at 1-1.

The teams tied it five more times through the half before Cavallaro's goal at the 3:09 mark gave the Bonnies a 7-6 advantage heading into the half.  That would be the final lead for St. Bonaventure as Temple came out of the break scoring three consecutive goals to lead 8-6 at 24:25.

The Brown and White close on Cavallaro's second goal, but the Owls went on a 4-1 run to end the game.  Keelin Hood picked up her first goal of the season to start the run with18:55 remaining before Stephany Parcell, Markunas and Shelby Christopher found the net.

Drabin scored her third of the game at 5:25, but neither team could muster any offensive strength as the Owls snapped the Bonnies' three-game winning streak.
