ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — After snapping a
three-game losing streak last Sunday, the St. Bonaventure women's
soccer team (2-3-0) head to Hamilton, N.Y. for the Colgate Nike
Invitational this weekend to take on Cornell and host Colgate on
Friday and Sunday, respectively.
In the Bonnies' most recent win, Senior Anna
Cunningham notched a goal and an assist, freshman Courtney
Hoenicke added the first tally of her career, and Nicole
Markert earned her 11th career shutout in a 3-0 St. Bonaventure
decision opposite Bowling Green.
Cornell and St. Bonaventure will play the opening game of the
weekend's action at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Big Red are 1-1 on the
season and are coming off of a 7-0 blowout win versus Delaware
State on Sunday. Sophomore Megan Crowell and freshman Mary Keroack
both scored a pair of goals, freshman Rachel Nichols added a pair
of assists and sophomore Xandra Hompe had a goal and an assist for
the Big Red. Cornell nearly matched its total offensive output from
2009 with Sunday's scoring outburst, and just two games into the
2010 season, has equaled the eight goals scored last season.
Cornell also had more players score in Sunday's match than scored
all of last season, and has had six different goal-scorers through
the first two games of the season.
On Sunday, the Bonnies square off against tournament host Colgate
at 2:30 p.m. For the Raiders, who were picked to claim the Patriot
League title, Jillian Kinter, Anna Baldwin and Manoogian have all
scored one goal each lead the team in points with two apiece.
Malone also has two assists and is tied for first in the Patriot
League. Sophomore goalkeeper and 2009 Patriot League Rookie of the
Year Ashley Walsh leads the league in saves with 35 and is second
in saves per game with an average of seven.
